WELCOME TO THE MADGUY LAB
The MadGuy lab is run jointly by Dr. Stephanie Madon and myself (I'm the "Guy"). The lab's primary function is to investigate topics related to forensic science, with a particular focus on forensic firearm examination. The heart of the research in which I am most involved is the empirical assessment of issues related to performance, as well as understanding the complexity of meaning associated with forensic conclusions. My goal is to work collaboratively with forensic laboratories to conduct research that maximizes the validity of performance assessments and to develop procedures that address concerns related to the effects of psychological bias.
Dr. Madon's work includes studying how lay people understand forensic results, and how that understanding can influence their decisions.

I am always willing to consider taking on new graduate students, though applicants must be solely focused on the investigation of forensic techniques. In addition, applicants will be best prepared if they have mathematical skills such as college level calculus. Applicants need not have undergraduate degrees in psychology.

Having been trained as experimental psychologists Dr. Madon and myself emphasize rigorous experimental design and methodology to test important hypotheses, and strive to be guided by relevant psychological theory. Successful graduate students will be those who seek rigorous training in experimental psychology and who are not daunted by high expectations, constructive criticism, and hard work. Such students have had positive experiences in our lab and have achieved their professional goals (see "Students" tab). Individuals who have different strengths and skills are unlikely to find our lab to be a good fit.
